The comedy, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, is a Disney production based on a Dyan Sheldon novel by the same name. After a rocky start, the movie reached number two at the box office! The movie has especially been a hit with the younger generation that has been able to relate to the teenage protagonist in all ways.
The movie begins with Mary Elizabeth Cep, who insists on being called Lola, being displaced from the modern New York City to the suburbs of New Jersey. The most popular girl in school, Lola, finds school life extremely difficult and challenging at her new location as she must start all over again from the bottom of the popularity ladder! Lola befriends Ella, an honest and unpopular girl who also loves the same band as Lola called Sidarthur, and starts lying about her life to win friends and sound fascinating to her schoolmates.
Lola makes up stories, tries to grab the lead role for a huge school play, tries to get tickets to Sidarthur’s concert in New York and plans to crash into the band’s after party in the hope to gain the ‘most popular girl’ title, which belongs to Carla, Lola’s rival!
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen takes us through Lola’s journey of trying to fit in, making mistakes, upsetting and hurting people who truly care about her, facing teenage challenges of being displaced and finally making things right again. Lindsay Lohan, who plays Lola, and Megan Fox, who plays her rival Carla, both do justice to their roles splendidly. Lindsay has the audience hating her one moment for all her lies and crying the next moment for her loneliness and helplessness.
Will Lola actually get the lead role in the school music "Eliza Rocks", which is a modern take on Pygmalion? Will she and Ella get tickets to their awaited Sidarthur concert in New York? How will Lola overthrow Carla’s reign and become the most popular girl again?
